The 2021 Indoor Cricket National Championships will not proceed after a large number of teams withdrew due to uncertainty about border closures and quarantine periods.
The Championships, which were to be held at Casey Stadium, were initially postponed from June until September in the hope COVID restrictions would ease.
However the continuing volatility of travel arrangements meant there was some risk players would be forced to spend significant time away from family and work.
After consultation with State and Territory Associations, Cricket Australia determined the scale of the withdrawals meant the Championships were no longer viable.
"We are extremely disappointed the Championships won’t proceed," said Indoor Cricket & Events Manager, Briana Binch.
"However we fully appreciate the reason why so many participants were unable to commit to playing.
"Indoor Cricket and the Indoor Cricket National Championships are an important part of our game and we look forward to the Championships returning to our domestic schedule in its traditional June/July timeslot in 2022."
