In a series that showcased potential talent for next years 2020 Indoor Cricket World Cup, Australia swept the New Zealanders in all four divisions at the 2019 Trans-Tasman series in Palmerston North last week.
Australia’s Open Men won their first two matches 73-68 and 94-42 respectively. With the dominant Aussies looking strong, New Zealand upset them in their third match 90-72.
With the series on the line in the fourth match, New Zealand surpassed Australia’s score of 80 with four overs to spare, however, incredibly disciplined bowling from Australia’s boys resulted in a 2-run win to the visitors with celebrations high.
Open Men’s debutants Josh Dreaver and Jamie Diener showcased their potential ahead of next years World Cup, whilst Kieran Perkins’ time behind the stumps showcased a potential long-term future for him in the Aussie side.
After being square at 2-2, the Australian women’s team claimed victory in the fifth test to claim a 3-2 series win. Aussie veteran Briony Polkinghorne was named player of the series following an impressive week on the court.
More remarkably, Australia’s Open Women continue their Trans-Tasman winning streak since 1989.
In the 21 & Under Divisions, Australia’s men won the series 3-2, whilst the girls claimed their series 4-1. Tyler Van Luin and Amy Ridell were named player of the series in their respective divisions.
